From seed to pumpkin

Every pumpkin in the field starts as a seed in our hands in spring. Here is how the season unfolds.

  1. Sowing pumpkin seeds from the back of a trailer in a freshly drilled field
    Late spring

    Sowing

Seed goes into the ground by hand, row by row, once the frosts have passed.

  2. Rows of young pumpkin seedlings coming through the soil across the field
    June

    First leaves

Tiny seedlings appear and the field slowly turns from brown to green.

  3. A bright orange pumpkin flower fully open in the sunshine
    July

    Flowering

Big golden flowers open up and the bees do the important work.

  4. A ripe pumpkin being lifted from the vine in the field
    October

    Ready for you

The gate opens and the field is yours to wander, choose and cut.

Frequently asked questions

Parking, payment and everything else people ask us at the gate.

When we are open

When are you open?

We open on the first two weekends of October - Saturday 3rd, Sunday 4th, Saturday 10th and Sunday 11th - and then every day from Saturday 17th through to Saturday 31st. Gates are open 10.30am until 5pm on every one of those days, so that covers half term and Halloween itself.

Getting here & parking

Where do I park?

Parking is free on site, right beside the entrance. Follow the signs from the road rather than relying on your sat nav for the final turn.

Is the parking suitable for all vehicles?

Cars, vans and minibuses are all fine. If you are driving something low-slung or a larger motorhome, give us a ring on 07824 381267 before you set off and we will let you know how the ground is looking. Accessible spaces are available closest to the entrance.

Payment & pricing

How much does it cost to get in?

Nothing. There is no entry fee and parking is free, so you only pay for what you pick. Pumpkins are priced individually by size and paid for as you leave.

What payment methods do you take?

We take card and contactless payments as well as cash at the pay point. Card is quickest at busy times. Please note there is no cash machine on site.

Do I need to book in advance?

No booking is needed. Simply turn up on any of our open days between 10.30am and 5pm, pick what you like and pay on your way out. Weekends between 11am and 3pm are our busiest times, so come earlier or later for a quieter visit.

On the day

What should I wear and bring?

Wellies or sturdy boots, and clothes you do not mind getting muddy. We provide wheelbarrows and trolleys, but bring a bag or box for the car boot if you are picking a lot.

Are dogs allowed?

Yes, dogs are welcome. Please clear up after them. Assistance dogs are welcome everywhere on site.

What happens if the weather is bad?

We stay open in light rain, but we may close the field in high winds or if the ground becomes unsafe. Always check our Instagram before travelling on a wet day.
